Henley Royal Regatta,
Henley on Thames

Henley Royal Regatta is what the town is best known for. A five day sporting spectacle that combines the best features of an English garden party with world class sport on the banks of the Thames.

With a history stretching back to 1839, Henley Regatta is one of the longest established sporting events in the country. Over the many years of its existence it has become the premier event to win for rowers from around the world. Excluding Olympic and World Championships this is the regatta that means most to competitors. Hence it attracts crews from across the globe stretching from China to New Zealand, always with many World and Olympic Champions on display.

There are formal and informal parts to the regatta for spectators. If you know a member of the Stewards’ Enclosure they can provide you with badges for the enclosure close to the finish where you have to wear a dress below the knee or blazer and tie. But you can wear casual clothes further down the bank, take your own picnic and enjoy the spectacle for free.

There are also many bars and catering outlets along the riverside, so you need never go hungry or thirsty.

The town itself celebrates this 5 day festival with gusto and accommodation becomes booked early while the pubs and restaurants enjoy a party atmosphere.

Henley Royal Regatta is a spectacle that can be enjoyed by all ages and all budgets – but its a spectacle that keeps you coming back to Henley time and again.
