Join the Great Henley Sack Race 2026 – A Community Clean-Up with a Difference

POSTED ON February 17, 2026

There’s something special about spring in Henley-on-Thames, and on Sunday 22 March 2026, residents and visitors alike are invited to be part of one of the town’s most uplifting community events: the Great Henley Sack Race.

Organised by Henley Town Council and proudly sponsored by The Henley Society, this unique “sack race” isn’t about hopping, it’s about helping. Armed with litter-picking sacks, volunteers take part in a focused two-hour clean-up across the town, helping to keep Henley beautiful for everyone who lives, works and visits here.

With its riverside setting, independent shops and historic charm, Henley-on-Thames is one of Oxfordshire’s most picturesque destinations. The Great Henley Sack Race is a chance to protect and enhance that charm while enjoying time outdoors with friends, family and fellow community members.

Last year’s event was a fantastic success, with more than 200 participants turning out to make a visible difference across the town.

A spokesperson for The Henley Society said:

“The Henley Society are delighted to, once again, support the excellent Henley Town Council’s Great Henley Sack Race event.

We fully support any initiative that improves the ambience of Henley, and we cannot think of a better way of promoting public participation than this concentrated 2-hour litter pick.

Last year’s event was a well-organised and outstanding success with over 200 residents taking part and we look forward to being part of another successful event on March 22nd.”

Whether you’re a long-time local, new to the area, or simply love visiting Henley, this is a brilliant way to give back while soaking up the fresh spring air.

How to Get Involved

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Equipment and guidance will be provided, and participants can join as individuals, families or teams.

Make a day of it — take part in the clean-up and then explore Henley’s cafés, shops and riverside walks afterwards.
